Episode 28: Why Wisdom Traditions Still Matter
Jun 10, 2026
We have a funny relationship with old things.
Old houses have "character." Old wine gets better with age. Old recipes become family heirlooms. But an old philosophical text? Apparently that's where we draw the line. If it's more than a few hundred years old, we assume it's quaint, outdated or completely irrelevant to modern life.
Which is... an interesting assumption.
Because while technology has changed beyond recognition, humans haven't. We still fall in love, lose people, make terrible decisions, cling to certainty, fear rejection and spend an inordinate amount of time trying to become someone we think we'll finally like. It turns out the human condition hasn't had nearly as many software updates as we'd like to believe.
In this episode, we unpack why we keep returning to ancient wisdom traditions, not because they're old, but because they're remarkably good at exposing the assumptions we didn't even realise we were making. The best of these texts don't tell you what to think. They quietly dismantle the mental furniture you've been tripping over for years.
Which, if we're honest, is far more useful than another productivity hack.
