Episode 26: Despair, Disdain, Disinterest: The Three Horsemen of the Deconstruct
May 27, 2026
One of the more annoying things about being human is that life has an uncanny habit of dismantling the things we were absolutely convinced would work forever.
Sometimes it's a relationship. Sometimes it's your career. Sometimes it's a belief you've built your entire identity around. Whatever it is, there comes a point where you realise you're pouring more and more energy into keeping something alive that quietly died a while ago.
Most of us assume that's the hard part. It's not.
The hard part is what comes next. The messy middle where you're oscillating between "Maybe I can fix this" and "Actually, this was all rubbish anyway." (We've all met someone in that second phase. We may have been that second phase.)
In this episode, Bello maps the three stages of a deconstruct: despair, disdain and, eventually, disinterest. It's one of those conversations that puts words around an experience most of us have had but couldn't quite explain. And if you're currently trying very hard to resurrect something that just isn't working anymore... well, there might be a reason that's proving so exhausting.
