Episode 29: The Descent: When Success Stops Making Sense

Jun 17, 2026

Most of us inherited a definition of success long before we were old enough to question it.

Get the grades. Get the job. Build the career. Buy the house. Keep climbing. And if you ever find yourself wondering "Is this it?"... well, clearly you just haven't climbed high enough yet.

It's a remarkably persuasive story. Right up until it isn't.

At some point, life has an awkward habit of asking a question no amount of achievement can answer: What if the mountain you're climbing was never yours to begin with?

In this episode, we explore what happens when the inherited map of success stops making sense, and why that moment isn't necessarily a crisis. It might actually be an invitation. The wisdom traditions have a name for it: the descent. Not a failure. Not a detour. Just the curious and often uncomfortable process of discovering that fulfilment was never waiting for you at the summit.

Which is mildly inconvenient if you've spent the last twenty years climbing.
