Episode 33: Going With/Against the Grain

Jul 15, 2026

Have you ever noticed that some things in life seem to require an extraordinary amount of forcing?

You push. You strive. You overthink. You convince yourself that if you just try a little harder, life will eventually get the memo.

Sometimes that's true.

Sometimes... you're simply rowing upstream.

One of the central ideas in the Taoist wisdom tradition is that everything has its own inherent way - rivers, trees, seasons... and people. Not a destiny written in stone, nor a personality test waiting to happen, but a deeper pattern that quietly shapes the unfolding of a life. You can move with it, or you can spend an impressive amount of energy pushing against it.

In this episode, Bello and I explore what it means to recognise your own Way, why your heart often senses it before your mind catches up, and why trusting the path isn't the same as expecting it to be easy.

Because swimming against the current will certainly build character.

It just won't necessarily get you where you're trying to go.
